For the first time in over two years, CEOs, politicians, and billionaires are set to congregate at the World Economic Forum following a pandemic-induced hiatus. Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine, the COVID-19 pandemic, and worries of economic gloom will be among the key topics discussed, as the world’s top leaders face the most uncertain outlook for global cooperation in years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the economic front, minutes from the Federal Reserve\u2019s May 4 meeting are set for release on Wednesday and are expected to give investors a better picture of where policymakers see interest rates headed in 2022. Uncertainty around the pace and magnitude of the Federal Reserve\u2019s rate hiking cycle has pressured equity markets, with investors bracing for an economic slowdown as signs emerge that inflation is becoming entrenched in pockets of the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The picture across China remains mixed. In Shanghai, officials have laid out the criteria to categorize parts of the commercial hub as low-risk for Covid-19 as they look to end a two-month lockdown, with no new cases outside quarantine being reported. Beijing, however, reported a record number of cases, reviving concern that the capital may face a lockdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will be useful to pay attention to the publication of data on business activity (Markit) in Germany and the Eurozone as a whole onwww.er Tuesday, 24th<\/sup> May. US orders for capital and durable goods will be released on Wednesday. The minutes of the last FOMC meeting of the Fed will be published on the same day, and preliminary US GDP indicators for the Q1 2022 will be known on Thursday, 26th<\/sup> May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UK economic developments in the coming week include a speech by Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey on Monday 23rd<\/sup> May, and the release of the PMI Composite and Markit Manufacturing and Services PMIs on Tuesday 24th<\/sup> May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
